Obituary for Patricia "Patty" Lee Haag
Patricia “Patty" Haag passed away at her home on November 10, 2011 surrounded by her family. She was 81. Patty was born January 1, 1930 in Detroit, Mich. to George and Zula (Green) Pierce. The family moved to Corvallis, OR where Patty attended and graduated from high school and then attended Oregon State University. There she was active in the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. Patty married Roger Haag on June 17, 1951 in Corvallis. She worked various jobs while Roger completed his education at OSU as they simultaneously began a family and Patty became a mother and homemaker. She was very involved in her kids’ activities including helping with Cub Scouts, Bluebirds and Campfire Girls. In 1962, the family moved to California where they would live for the next twenty years. Roger and Patty (Patty was famously renamed "Gommy" in the late '70s by her first grandchild) retired to Brookings in 1982 and together they built what later came to be known as "Gommy's House by the Ocean." Patty loved the ocean view from her home and enjoyed gardening and raising her colorful bulbs and flowers, sewing and cooking and motorhome traveling and, later in life, feeding and watching the birds that daily visited the ocean-view deck. Patty's younger daughter and grandchildren moved to Brookings in 1988 and her mother in 1989, thereby enriching her greatest joy in life...being a devoted and loving daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Roger Haag of Brookings, daughter Judy Lynne of Murrieta, CA, son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Debbie Haag of Harrison, OH, daughter, Janette Pacchetti of Brookings, son and daughter-in-law, Curtis and Kym Haag of Newark, CA, grandchildren, Karla, Joseph and Nathan Forkert, Heather, Ruthie and Darin Haag and Diana Pacchetti, and her favorite dog, Casey. Patty was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Lisa Pacchetti and her brother, George Pierce. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1650 NW Naito Parkway, Suite 190, Portland, OR 97209. Viewing will be held at Redwood Memorial Chapel, 1020 Fifield St., Brookings, OR, on Sunday, November 13, 2011 from 4 to 8pm. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 14, 2011 at 2:00pm at Redwood Memorial Chapel. Dr. Gordon Myrah will officiate. Friends are invited to a reception following the service at the family home, 1111 Sandy Lane. Private inurnment will be at a later date at W. J. Ward Memorial Cemetery in Brookings. The family wishes to extend their thanks and gratitude to all who gave of their time and devotion in assisting our precious Gommy with her transition from her house on the ocean to her eternal home in Heaven.
