Obituary for Otto J Jes
Otto J. Jes passed away peacefully in Gold Beach, Oregon on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 with his family at his side. He was 84. He went home to live with his Lord. Otto was bron April 15, 1927 in Chicago, IL to Jerrie and Stella Jes. He grew up there and was a witness of the St. Valentine's Day Massacre. In 1944, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served honorably during WWII, being discharged with the rank of TEC4 at the end of 1946. He was awarded the following medals: Army of Occupation WWII, WWII Victory, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign, and the U.S. Army Good Conduct. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He then began a career in design engineering, beginning with Weyerhaeuser Co., then later with Kit Manufacturing where he began to design mobile homes. Otto finished his career with Willamette Industries in Compton, Calif. where he was a designing engineer of corrugated shipping containers and obtained several patents; he retired from there in 1992. Otto married Barbara Hoover in Mt. Vernon, Ohio on December 23, 1965. They moved to Gold Beach in 2007. Otto has a passion for working with his hands, whether he was designing, drawing, painting, woodworking, hunting or just tinkering. He always loved to use his talents to create or fix anything. His favorite thing was to visit and see his loved ones, family and friends alike. Survivors inclue his wife of 45 years, Barbara, of Gold beach; sons, Tom, Bob Steven, and Clifford Jes; daughters, Lisa Wood and Jennifer Quesada; stepsons, Gary and Jeff Hoover; 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Otto was preceded in death by his sister, Stella Huddlestone and both parents. Memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors Project, 2468 Historic Decatur Road, Bldg. 905, Suite 150, San Diego, CA 92106. A memorial service was held on Friday, September 30, 2011 at Calvary Chapel Gold Beach.
