Oleatha Whatley-Martin Oct. 10, 1925—Nov. 23, 2013 Oleatha Whatley-Martin, 88, of Brookings, passed away in Crescent City, Calif. on Nov. 23, 2013. She was born Oct. 10, 1925 in Bucado, Mo., to Alvin and Laura (Hathaway) Hooser. Oleatha (Lea) moved to Harbor in 1979 with her late husband Kirb Whatley. She started and was owner of Curry Collections, and co-owner with her late husband Kirb of Barbara K. Fishing Charters. On Valentine's Day in 2004 Lea married Charles “Ken” Martin at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Brookings and they made their home in Harbor. Lea was a proud member of Eastern Star, and the Emblem Club in Brookings, where she enjoyed volunteering her time working in the community. She was an avid business woman, earned her insurance license and in her spare time, and obtained her aircraft pilot license. Lea loved the outdoors and being on the ocean. Her passion was fishing, camping, hiking and spending time with her family. Lea is survived by her husband Ken of Harbor; children, Ray and Pamela Estes of Soldotna, Alaska; Sharon and Gary Hartung of Brookings; Marian and Bruce Carmona of Denair, Calif.; Karen and Richard Vermeulen of Brookings; and three stepchildren, Judy and Rod King of Napa, Calif.; Beth and David Agnason of Hilmar, Calif.; Joan and Frank Cappalla of Stockton, Calif.; and 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. Preceding her in death by her first husband Kirb Whatley, sister Arlene Laseck and her parents Alvin and Laura Hooser. Redwood Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
