Obituary for Norman Dean Anderson
Norman Dean Anderson July 12, 1932 – February 11, 2013 Norman Dean “Stormin Norman” Anderson, passed away February 11, 2013 in Brookings, Oregon, at the age of 80. He was born July 12, 1932 at Perry, Iowa to Dale and Helen (Hagard) Anderson. He moved with his family to Southern California in 1940, and attended High School there. After graduation, Norman served in the U.S. Army in Korea and was honorably discharged. Norman’s military honors included: Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal, UN Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal. Norman studied animal husbandry at California State Polytechnic University in Pomona during the 1950’s, and worked with cattle and horses on Catalina Island. His nickname came from walking out to the end of a pier during a fierce storm and yelling to the gale, “IS THAT ALL YOU GOT?” During the 1960’s, he became a truck driver, and driving became his life. He moved to Gold Beach in 1972, and became a taxi driver, and beginning in 1983 a public transport driver. He was well known in the Gold Beach community as the driver for Meals on Wheels, the Senior Nutrition program. Norm also enjoyed shooting pool at the senior center on Wednesday and Friday nights. Norman is survived by his daughter, Carrie Nelson of AZ and nephew Ed Anderson of CA. A Memorial Service with military honors was held at the Gold Beach VFW Hall on February 23, 2013. In lieu of flowers please send donations in Norman’s name to the Gold Beach Senior Center, 29841 Airport Way Gold Beach, OR 97444, (541-) 247-7506.
