Obituary for Morris Orum Spawn
Morris Orum Spawn, 96, of Brookings, OR passed away in Gold Beach on April 14, 2011. Morris was born in Trenton, New Jersey on March 27, 1915, son of James and Carrie Spawn. Morris graduated from Central High School in Washington, D.C. in 1936 and later enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He married Helen Andrews in 1944. They were stationed various places and finally settled in Lakewood, California. Morris had a number of jobs and retired from being a machine inspector. Raising five children was his main focus in his early years. Morris was a 50 plus year Master Mason and a Charter Member of Lakewood Lodge in Lakewood, California. He was active in the Order of the Amaranth, Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, White Shrine, Scottish Right and High Twelve. Survivors include daughter Kat and husband Rocky Grosch, and daughter Peggy and husband Will Berry of Brookings, son Andy and wife Claudia Spawn of McMinnville, son David Spawn of Sacramento and son Ted and wife Kathie Spawn of Tigard. Morris was quite proud of his 10 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Morris was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Helen, in 2004; his sister Josephine Rippey, brother William Spawn and great grandson Ronnie Dean Riddle in 1997. Trains were his passion and he spent many hours watching train videos and collecting various train memorabilia. He shared his love for trains with many of his friends. A Masonic Memorial will be held Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 2 PM at the Masonic Hall on Azalea Park Road in Brookings, Oregon.
