Obituary for Monica Fischer
Monica Fischer, 58, passed away at her home in Brookings on January 31, 2013. Monica was born June 19, 1954 in Crescent City, Calif. to James and Nancy (Chichak) Harper. She grew up there and in Brookings, graduating from Brookings Harbor High School. Monica later spent 10 years working in Alaska as a cook on King Crab fishing boats in Kodiak and Dutch Harbor. She also worked in the canneries there. While there, Monica met Jeff Fischer whom she married in Lake Tahoe on July 3, 1987. They moved to Brookings where Jeff began Little Fish Construction. Monica worked at the Tackle Shop in Gold Beach and the Chetco Outdoor Store in Brookings, as well as keeping the books for the Jeff’s business. Five years ago, she obtained her real estate agent license and had been working as an agent for Blue Pacific Realty. Monica loved spending time outdoors with her dogs hunting and fishing. She also like traveling, snowmobiling and riding motorcycles. Survivors include her husband Jeff Fischer of Brookings, siblings, Rick Harper of Smith River, Calif., Cyndi McMann of Eugene, Ore., half-sister, Gladys Comeau of Lachine, ON, Canada, three nieces and three nephews. An open house will be held at the family home, 96852 Swede Lane in Brookings from 12pm to 4pm on Saturday, February 9, 2013. Condolences may be expressed online at www.redwoodmemorial.net.
