Obituary for Mildred L. Bate
Mildred L. Bate, 78, passed away at her home in Brookings, Ore. on January 22, 2016.

Mildred was born December 20, 1937 in Palmer, Tenn. to William and Rose (Robertson) Layne. She married Robert Lee Bate in Lovel, Wyoming. They moved to Brookings in 1972 where Mildred worked for 30 years as a physical therapist and caregiver at Good Samaritan Nursing Home. She loved being around the ocean including time spent in the Port and walking along the beach. Mildred also loved flowers and enjoyed drinking coffee from Dutch Bros. Since she came from a large family, Mildred enjoyed keeping in touch with them regularly on the phone and on Facebook. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her husband Robert Bate of Brookings; son, Michael W. Bate of Oregon, daughter and son-in-law, Marie and Joe Hawkins of Idaho; brothers, Alton Layne of Wyoming, Earl Layne of Oregon, Jack Layne of Oregon and John Layne of Montana, sister, Lois Layne of Wyoming, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Wiley and Melvin Layne.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Redwood Memorial Chapel, 1020 Fifield St. in Brookings. Lite refreshments will follow.
