Obituary for Michael "Shane" Thompson
Michael “Shane” Thompson, 56, passed away at his home in Harbor, Ore. on June 3, 2015. Shane was born November 22, 1958 in Crescent City, Calif., one of three children to Eugene and Lois Thompson. He grew up in Brookings, Ore., leaving school to begin fishing commercially with his father when he was 16. Shane then worked for South Coast Lumber in Brookings and, later, Arcata Lumber in Smith River where he learned to be a saw filer. In 1983, he moved to Oroville and then a year later to Quincy, Calif. with his family where he lived for 20 years and worked for Sierra Pacific. Shane returned to Brookings in 2006 and resided there until his death. Shane enjoyed playing golf, bowling, fishing and hunting crawdads. He also loved spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandkids and his father, and was known to be a practical joker. Survivors include his son, Jason Thompson and his fiance Kim Coyle, of Shady Cove, Ore., daughter, Lisa Thompson of Cotati, Calif., grandchildren, Trinity and Tristan Blust, Mason Thompson, father, Eugene Thompson of Harbor, Ore., sister, Nona Myers and her husband, Terry, of Eagle Point, Ore., brother Donald Rodriquez of Idaho,as well as numerous nieces and nephews, Shane was preceded in death by his mothers, Lois Marie Headley and Doris Thompson as well as his brother, Gary Thompson. A celebration of life will be held in Quincy Ca, at a later date for friends and family that would like to attend. Redwood Memorial Chapel is assisting the family.
