Obituary for Michael "Mike" Forrest Crow
Michael “Mike” Forrest Crow Oct. 30, 1936 – Mar. 15, 2017
Michael “Mike” Forrest Crow went to be with the Lord on March 15, 2017. Mike was born in Glendale, CA on October 30, 1936 to Walter Crow and Jessica (Toy) Crow. He grew up in San Gabriel, CA, graduated elementary school from San Gabriel Mission to enter the Claretian seminary for four years of high school and one year of college. Upon leaving the seminary he graduated from Citrus Community College where he played football including one bowl game. He then started work on a surveying crew for Los Angeles Sanitation Department. At this time, Mike was also in the Air Force Reserve in crash and rescue for eight years.
He met the love of his life Carol Keene whom he married in 1960 and settled in West Covina, CA where they welcomed daughters Catherine, Celeste, Mary and identical twins Thomas and Jonathon. His son Jonathon predeceased him when an accident took him at the tender age of eight. Another gift from God was sent to the family in the form of David arriving soon after Jonathon met with the Lord.
His time as an excellent husband and father included driving for the blind, coaching Pop Warner football and running a CYO club in his parish church. He taught and coordinated religious education for over twenty years in the high school and junior high of his parish church including bringing religious education to the young persons detained in Juvenile Hall of the Los Angeles penal system.
After thirty-seven years with the County of Los Angeles, Mike retired as chief of his own crew. He and Carol found Brookings on a film of the Coast of Oregon in the Los Angeles public library. How could anything be so beautiful? They retired to Brookings in 1995 and were never sorry to do so.
Mike leaves his wife Carol, five children and five grandchildren of whom he was so grateful for and proud of. He also leaves his brother Jack Crow of San Gabriel, CA.
