Obituary for Mary Lee Adkins-Tetz
Mary Lee Adkins-Tetz Feb. 19, 1936 – Oct. 15, 2014 Mary Lee Adkins Crook Tetz 78, went to meet her son Joel in Heaven, Oct. 15, 2014, in Medford, Ore. She was born Feb. 19, 1936 in Shoepke, Wisconsin to Virgil and Mabel (Crase) Adkins. Mary Lee and her family moved out West from Wisconsin during the Great Depression. Her father, a heavy equipment operator, eventually moved to Brookings in 1953. She was very proud of the fact that he placed the first rock on what was to become the South jetty! She graduated BHHS in 1954. Mary Lee was a founding member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. She is survived by the love of her life for 15 years, Warren, daughter Robyn Crook King, grandson and second love of her life Dan'l King and his companion Lindsey Logan, her great grandsons, Sebastian King and Logan Parrish will miss their Grammie! She has numerous cousins, nieces and nephews whom she loved! She was preceded in death by her loving parents Virgil and Mae Adkins, also her little brother John and her son, Joel Mark Crook, who was lost at sea on August 16, 1972, during a freak storm. Earlier in her life she was a bookkeeper, working with Ellis Dowden and Carol Duncan Hastings. She then continued on working for ACCO Logging, Tidewater and South Coast Lumber. One of her most meaningful jobs was when she was a local funeral director. Her compassion and empathy will be remembered by all she assisted. She loved this area, animals and sun bathing at second bridge when the road wasn't paved. She also loved camping with friends and family on the beautiful Chetco River, back when things were things! Mary was an avid gardener, famous for her pounds of cherry tomatoes. Holidays and special occasions were some of her most cherished times with family dinners and visiting. She loved to cook and bake items for her family. Her life was changed forever on May 22, 1999 when she married her husband Warren Tetz in Brookings. She no longer longed for anything. They were very much in love with each other, making each other their life! Rest in peace Mom, We love you always! Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Timothy's Episcopal church for one of their many helpful programs! Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, October 24, 2014, at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, 401 Fir Street in Brookings. The Rev. Bernie Lindley will officiate. Private interment will be at W.J. Ward Memorial Cemetery. Redwood Memorial Chapel is assisting the family. Condolences may be expressed online at www.redwoodmemorial.net.
