Obituary for Marian L. Misener
“I know there is an ordinary format that is supposed to be used for this, but it was MY mom who died and she was never, never ordinary. She was born Marian Golden Lloyd, April 8th, 1920 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Throughout her life she was known by many nicknames: Golden, Loni, Midge and finally, Tigger. Her last names changed with husbands: Rainey, Petrehn and finally as her favorite...Misener. She passed at the age of 92 on June 11th, 2012 here in Brookings close to her beloved husband Cliff; who we are grateful to still have with us, and within a rock's throw of her equally beloved ocean. Her twenty-six years with Cliff allowed her to travel the world as they pleased and left her thrilled with all his spoiling and pampering. She has joined her two sons which preceded her, and left behind a daughter who misses her smile and that wicked twinkle in her eyes. Our lives have lost a gourmet cook with deep roots in Cajun cooking, a wildly enthusiastic "whale lady" who would stand in pouring rain to record their magnificent migration, a woman filled with remarkable stories from having lived nine decades and a truly wonderful flair for sharing them. Mom never believed dying was the end, rather a "passing over" and that there should not be weeping and mournfully solemn memorials. It was her wish that her death would instead be a celebration of a life well lived. In honor of that belief, the family will be holding a private celebration and gathering, filled with laughter, music, hugely fond memories and a very special video production of her life.” Written by her daughter, Kevin Trotter.
