Obituary for Lula Dell Murphy
Lula Dell (Parker) Murphy Dec. 15, 1921 - Aug. 9, 2010 Lula Dell (Parker) Murphy passed away at a local care facility in Brookings on Monday, August 9, 2010. She was 88. Lula was born December 15, 1921 in Marietta, OK to John and Emma (Allen) Parker. She was raised on a farm in Oklahoma. On November 1, 1944, Lula married Joseph F. Murphy in Chickasha, OK. They returned to California. Lula had many jobs during her lifetime including as a waitress, clerking at a drug store, as a day care provider, supervisor of a rest home and in a shoe store. She also worked at the National Youth Association, candled eggs in an egg plant and worked at the Chickasha Hospital and Douglas Aircraft. After moving to Oklahoma, she and Joseph returned again to California where they remained. They retired to Jackson, CA in 1969 and later moved to Brookings, OR in 2001. Lula served as a church organist for many years and enjoyed bowling and sewing. Survivors include her daughters, Pamala Murphy of Brookings and Rhonda Gardenheir and her husband, Steve of Brookings, grandchildren, Davina Edmonson, Paul Tramell, Greg and Scott Gardenheir, great grandchildren, William, John, Aaron, Christopher, Lane, Staci, Melody, Colton and Caitlyn, brothers, John Parker of San Leandro, CA, J.H. Parker of San Leandro and H.D. Parker of Lawton, OK, sisters, Thelma Wade and Elsie Muchmore of Duncan, OK, Maxine Boerner of Milton, PA. Lula was preceded in death by her husband in 2002, sisters, Reba Smith, Pat Rodgers and Betty Grommesh, and a grandson, Jason Gardenheir. Lula was laid to rest beside her husband at W.J. Ward Memorial Cemetery in Brookings.
