Obituary for Louis Harlan Brouillard
Louie H. Brouillard, 67, of Brookings, passed away in Crescent City, Calif. on January 9, 2015. Louie was born November 7, 1947, in Susanville, Calif., one of two children to Everett and Eva (Long) Brouillard. He grew up in the Scotia and Fortuna areas, attending Fortuna High School. He entered the US Army in 1966 – serving two tours in Vietnam. Louie earned several commendations for his service as a door gunner, including the Purple Heart. Following an honorable discharge in 1968, he lived in Drain, Ore. and worked for Woolley Trucking with his uncle, Ernie Long, who taught him to drive truck. He then worked as a fishing guide on the Snake River in Hell’s Canyon. He later moved to Alaska where he was commercial crabbing and a salmon fisherman on the Bering Sea. Louie loved to hunt and while in Alaska was able to hunt moose and big horn sheep. He moved back to Oregon – settling in Cave Junction where he worked for Westbrook Logging. It was in Cave Junction that he met Nancy; the two fell in love and were married on July 26, 1981 in Reno, Nevada. They moved to Brookings the following year where Louie drove a logging truck for South Coast Lumber Co. for over 23 years until retiring in 2006. In addition to fishing and hunting, Louie was an avid sports fan, recently changing favorite teams from the Atlanta Braves to the San Francisco Giants. Louie also liked to play the drums, and sing along to the radio. Most of all, though, Louie loved his family. They have many fond memories of camping in Agness, Lake Selmac, and Howard Prairie on his and Nancy’s anniversary. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Nancy, of Brookings; daughter and son-in-law, Starla and Brian Spencer of Garden Valley, Calif.; daughter and her partner, Crystal Clayburn and Christina Lewis of Fortuna, Calif.; son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Michelle Brouillard of Brookings; grandchildren, Adara Lewis, Christopher Cooke, Tristan Brouillard, Samuel Brouillard and Sawyer Brouillard; sister and brother-in-law, Diana and Roy Johnson of Eureka, Calif.; stepfather, Robert Wright of Orick, Calif.; numerous nieces and nephews and his beloved K-9 companion, Bruno. A celebration of Louie’s life will be held at 2:00 on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015 at the Brookings Elks Lodge 1934, 800 Elk Drive. Pastor Rich Abbott will officiate. A reception will follow the service at the Elks Lodge. Private interment will be held at WJ Ward Memorial Cemetery in Brookings. In Lieu of flowers, Louie and his family would wish for a donation to the Brookings Harbor Little League, P.O. Box 1424, Brookings, OR 97415 or a favorite charity in his name. Redwood Memorial Chapel is assisting the family.
