Obituary for Loretta Maze
Loretta R. Maze passed away from pancreatic cancer at her home in Brookings with her husband and son by her side on August 4, 2010. She was 64. Loretta was born May 25, 1946 in Oakland, CA, one of six children to Joseph and Lena Fanfa. She met her husband, Marshall, in 1964. Their first date was at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco when Marshall was home on leave serving in the US Marine Corps. Upon Marshall's return from service overseas, they married in 1966 and honeymooned at Howard Prairie Lake. An honorary veteran, Loretta's life touched every branch of the Armed Forces. Her youngest brother, US Army Sgt. Anthony Fanfa, was killed in action in Vietnam. She selflessly worked and made it possible for her only son, Louis, to learn to fly and graduate from the US Coast Guard Academy. Loretta's favorite job was working at Cal-Neva Resort at Lake Tahoe. She loved fishing, the outdoors and artwork. Her home is decorated throughout with her paintings, cross-stitches and needlework. Loretta believed on Christ Jesus, and often said the ocean here in Brookings was her cathedral. Friends are invited to an informal gathering where Loretta will be laid to rest at W. J. Ward Memorial Cemetery in Brookings on Monday, August 9, 2010 at 2:00pm.
