Obituary for Lloyd R. Edwards
Lloyd R. Edwards passed away at Curry General Hospital in Gold Beach on February 5, 2012. Lloyd was 85 years old. Lloyd was born June 26, 1926 in Klamath Falls, Ore. to Clarence and Della (Lepin) Edwards. He grew up mainly in the Corvallis, Ore. area. He married Ida May Davis in Reno, Nevada on March 3, 1945. Lloyd served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. He worked in the carpentry business as a young man and later in logging. Lloyd worked as a logger in several small towns around Oregon, and in 1952 he moved to Gold Beach, Ore. where he went to work for Enland Equipment Company as a supplier of equipment to the local loggers. After retiring from Enland, Lloyd worked for Tidewater driving a dump truck for a short time. He worked for Electro, Inc. in Vancouver, Wash. as a salesman in the LeToureau Log Stacker business for a few years and also for Sheldon Goldfin driving a log truck. He purchased a logging truck from Sheldon and drove it for around for five years until he had an accident that forced him to retire once again. That didn’t last too long, though, and Lloyd went back to work for Bill Carkhuff driving log trucks for another six years before he retired at the age of 78. Lloyd was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Gold Beach Lions Club, the Moose Lodge, and was a volunteer fireman and ambulance driver for 22 years. Lloyd enjoyed fishing and hunting his whole life. He enjoyed and was well known for his fishing sinkers and weights. He made them for fishermen up and down the Oregon Coast. Survivors include his daughter, Sharon Shaffer, of Battle Ground, Wash.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Lloyd was preceded in death by his son, Dale Lee Edwards, in 2005 and his wife, Ida, in 2008. Memorial contributions may be made to Pennies for Pooches, P.O. Box 1883, Gold Beach, Oregon 97444, the Gold Beach Fire Department or a charity of your choice. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at the Showcase Building at the Curry County Fairgrounds in Gold Beach.
