Obituary for Linda L. Barrett
Linda Barrett passed away at her home in Crescent City on October 3, 2011 after a long fight with cancer. She was 63, but eternally young at heart. Her loss is a soul crushing pain to her husband. Linda was born January 6, 1948 in Burbank, Calif. To Cecil and Helen (Quackenbush) Tolbert. She grew up in Burbank with special friends like, Jan Curtis. Linda spent most of her working life as a waitress in restaurants and casinos. She met Jim Barrett in Reno, Nevada in 1984; the two were officially married on November 11, 1989 in Virginia City, Nevada. They lived in Reno until moving to Crescent City in 1995. Linda’s passion was her garden. She entered her flowers in the Del Norte County Fair every year for the last 16 years and won the Cut Flower Division 12 times, Grand Champion 3 times, and Best of Show this year for her meadow rue. Linda was especially thankful for the friendship of Morgana and Gennie who run and assist the Del Norte County Fair Floral Department. Linda also cherished her long time poker club friends, Gisela, Addie, Norma and Mona. She will miss these games possible more than anything. She was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Sunrise Garden Club. Survivors include her husband, Jim of Crescent City, daughters, Wendy Musick of Twin Falls, ID and Jamie Jennings of Oceanside, CA, granddaughter, Sierra Dawn, great-granddaughters Elodie and Kayllie, and nephews, Jerry, Jeff and Jimmy. Linda was preceded in death by her sister, Jackie Pappas. Viewing will be held on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 from 10am to 12pm at Redwood Memorial Care, 611 9th St. in Crescent City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011 at 2:00pm. Inurnment will be at a later date at Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park Mausoleum in Hayward, CA.
