Obituary for Linda Ann Schamel
Linda Ann Schamel of Brookings peacefully passed away on 12 November- 2016. She was surrounded by friends and family. She is now with her husband Woody of 48 years.
Born on March 26, 1942 in San Fernando, CA, she was the daughter of James Peter Haynes & Ella May King Haynes and the sister of Pete Haynes (Malibu, CA). She was married to Woody Schamel for 48 years and had two sons, Duke (Huntington Beach, CA) and Kirk (Seattle, WA). She had 4 grandchildren Trenton & Dane who live in Huntington Beach, CA and Ava & Grant in Seattle, WA.
Linda spent her early years in San Fernando, Hollywood, Vista, Glendale, and Malibu. After high school, she served in the United States Marine Corps with her husband, Woody whom she met and married in 1961.
They lived in Southern California until 1977 when they moved to Tulelake, CA where Woody started his job as Sheriff’s Deputy. Linda worked for the local branch of Bank of America. Their son Duke graduated high school and began playing college football at College of the Siskiyous. Duke went on to play football at University of South Dakota and several NFL teams. In 1984, they moved their family to Yreka, CA and Linda started at Yreka Police Department as a dispatcher and office administrator. Kirk graduated from high school and played football at the University of Oregon.
In 2004, Linda and Woody moved to Brookings to start their business as private investigators. This enabled them to spend time together RV’ing, riding Harleys and raising Jack Russell Terriers. They were members of the Brookings Elks and Marine Corps League. Linda served as the Commandant of the Calvin E. Murphy Detachment of the Marine Corps League from 2012-2014.
Throughout her extensive travels, Linda made an indelible impression on everyone she met.

Services will be held from 12pm to 3pm on Sunday, Dec. 11, 2016 at the Brookings Elks Lodge, 800 Elk Drive in Brookings. Food for the service will be potluck. A bar will be available for refreshments.
