Obituary for Leatha "Le" Highland Harned
Letha "Le" Harned went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, October 7, 2010. She was 86. Le was born April 16, 1924 in Arapaho, NE to Lester and Laura (Johnson) Highland. She grew up and attended school there. After high school graduation she moved to San Diego with her older brother and sister where she worked for Convair during WWII. She completed a year of training and graduated from San Diego School of Cosmetology and worked in that field several years. On March 10, 1947 she married Donald Harned, who preceded her in death. Le later moved back to Nebraska, settling in Lincoln. She held various bookkeeping positions and managed a dental office before moving to Brookings in 1975 where she did bookkeeping for Westbrook's Reservation Ranch until retirement. Le was a member of the First Baptist Community Church in Brookings where she volunteered her time with Child Evangelism Fellowship. She also enjoyed her time quilting at the church and volunteered for 14 years at Good Samaritan Society-Curry Village nursing home assisting the residents there. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be missed by her family very much. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Laura Le and Steve Salisbury of Brookings, OR, grandchildren, Broc Nelson of Brookings and Bree Nelson of Tempe, AZ, and numerous nieces and nephews. Le was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Community Baptist Church, 607 Pacific Ave., Brookings, OR 97415.
