Obituary for Lawrence Edward "Larry" Olds
Lawrence Edward “Larry” Olds Oct. 9, 1944 – Nov. 8, 2016
Larry Olds, 72, went home to be with the Lord on Nov. 8, 2016 while at the Good Samaritan care facility after a long battle with multiple myeloma.
He was born Oct. 9th. 1944 in Eugene, Oregon to Delmer and Connie Olds. He graduated from Grants Pass High School in 1963. Larry was employed in locations around the Rogue Valley until moving to Brookings in 1974 where he became a shareholder in the Brookings plywood mill and worked there until after the mill was purchased by South Coast Lumber Co. He later went into Real Estate sales. Larry’s next adventure turned into his most favorite of all. After his brother, Lloyd, gave him two shares in the Bonanza Opal Mine, Larry became a true opalholic spending the next 20 years helping others enjoy the thrill of finding their first Opal. Larry also enjoyed deer and elk hunting trips in Eastern Oregon immensely. Enjoying the family and friends companionship as much or more than getting an elk or deer.
Survivors include his two brothers and their wives, Lloyd Olds and Bonnie Olds of Brookings and Robert and Marcia Olds of Grants Pass; sons Bryon, his wife Shannon and their children Andrew, Christina, Anjelica and Emily all of Kenai, Alaska, son, Daniel “Danny” Olds of Brookings. Larry was preceded in death by his parents Delmer and Connie Olds and his brother Delbert “Roy” Olds.
Our family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Good Samaritan for their sincere kindness and care Larry received while there. Larry believed in the salvation message of Jesus and especially liked John 3:16-18 and Romans 10:9-13.
A memorial service will be held at Christian Community Church, Harbor, Oregon at a later date that will be announced in the Pilot.
