Lawrence B. Wright passed away at his home in Brookings on April 9, 2011. He was 81. Lawrence was born March 23, 1930 in Milford, Mich. to Claude and Erma (Wagner) Wright. His family came west to Oregon when Lawrence was 2. He served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict receiving an honorable discharge in 1954. Lawrence married Harbor native, Bertha Thomas, in Eureka, CA on September 28, 1954. He spent the early part of his working life as a logger in Oregon and California, working in the sawmills and working for Elmer Bankus. He later moved to Alaska where he worked 10 years as a heavy equipment operator on the Alaska Pipeline, retiring from there and returning to Brookings in 1986. Lawrence was a 35-year member of the Operating Engineers Union. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Bertha of Brookings, his four children, Randy Wright of Medford, Robin Shaffer and her husband, Robert of Henrietta, OK, Larry Wright and his wife, Nieca Dawn of Brookings, and Alan Wright of Daytona Beach, FL, seventeen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. At Lawrence' request, no public ceremony will be held.
