Obituary for Lavonne E. Morrell
Lavonne E. Morrell, 80, passed away at her home in Gold Beach, Ore. on September 10, 2014. Lavonne was born January 27, 1934 in Santa Barbara, Calif. to Howard Allen and Marie (Chalquist) Thierolf. Lavonne married Ronald Morrell in Las Vegas, Nev. in January of 1955. Because of Ron’s career in the Air Force, the family moved frequently including to England and Texas. When he retired, they settled in Aurora, Colo. Lavonne worked in the banking industry and had earned all 3 American Institute of Banking Certificates. After her children had all left home, Lavonne enrolled at Metro State College in Denver where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature. She was also named a Colorado Scholar for the class of 1985. In 1988, Ron and Lavonne moved to Gold Beach. Here Lavonne was active in the First Presbyterian Church, the Curry County Historical Society and Curry County and Coastal Home Health and Hospice, the Hospice Marketplace and as a volunteer senior tax preparer with AARP. She also worked for more than 20 years with Caps for Kids as the Curry County coordinator distributing thousands of caps to preschool and school children, newborn babies and cancer patients. Lavonne enjoyed reading, knitting and gardening. Survivors include her husband, Ron of Gold Beach, son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Sharon Morrell of Midland, Tex., daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Alex Edillor of Bakersfield, Calif., son, Richard Morrell of Colorado, grandchildren, Crystal, James, Schuyler, Hannah and Alexander, one great grandchild, Daniel. Lavonne was preceded in death by her brother, Dennis Thierolf in 1983. Memorial contributions may be made to Coastal Home Health and Hospice, PO Box 493, Gold Beach, OR 97444 or to the First Presbyterian Church of Gold Beach, PO Box 1137, Gold Beach, OR 97444. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church of Gold Beach, 29692 Hillcrest St., Gold Beach, with a potluck lunch and time of fellowship to follow. Lavonne’s cremated remains will be buried at sea by the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. Redwood Memorial Chapel is assisting the family. Condolences may be expressed online at www.redwoodmemorial.net.
