Obituary for Kermit L. Knutsen
Kermit L. Knutsen, 82, passed away at his home in Brookings, Ore. on December 10, 2017.
Kermit was born July 21, 1935 in Ajlune, Wash. to Loyal and Florence (Faultner) Knutsen. After serving in the US Navy, Kermit married Helen Bond in Chehalis, Wash. on March 10, 1962. His career began in logging in Washington. He and Helen started a family and lived happily for many years in Chehalis. Kermit then realized his lifelong dream of going to Alaska where he worked on the pipeline there as a member of the Teamsters Union. His love of music with friends and family was celebrated through his guitar during free time. After retiring, Kermit and Helen traveled extensively for many years until settling in Brookings. Here he lived out the rest of his days caring for his mother-in-law, Ila, and his wife, Helen. Kermit was a caring and loving husband and father who loved his family fiercely. He is truly loved and missed.
Survivors include his sons, Gerald Althof of Brookings, Leroy Knutsen and Ronald Knutsen, both of North Pole, Alaska, daughter, Julie Fleming of Brookings; eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Kermit was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, in 2016, and brothers, Kenneth Faultner and Cecil Knutsen.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Redwood Memorial Chapel, 1020 Fifield St. in Brookings. Private inurnment took place at WJ Ward Memorial Cemetery in Brookings.
