Obituary for Kensel M. Longcor
Kensel M. Longcor of Brookings, Ore., passed away Feb. 27, 2014. He was 72 years old. Kensel was born July 25, 1941 in Modesto, Calif., to George and Irene (Caudill) Longcor. He married Elsie McNutt on Oct. 27, 1961 in Modesto, and together they had a daughter Valarie. Kensel was a hard worker, and worked for 20 years at Procter and Gamble, where he became manager of the warehouse before retiring. Kensel was a proud member of the Nazarene Church in Brookings. He was also a man with a green thumb; he had an enormous garden of bonsai trees. His passion was growing and caring for bonsai trees, which he did for almost 50 years. He also enjoyed gold drudging and panning, and walking his dog Penny. Kensel is survived by his wife Elsie; daughter Valarie Machiel Schmidter, her husband Bill, and their children Travis DeRose, Luke Schmidter, and Cody Schmidter; and brother Ernie Longcor. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Irene, and a brother, Jim Longcor. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 15 at 10 a.m. at the Nazarene Church, 1600 Chetco Ave., Brookings, OR 97415, with a reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Brookings-Harbor Christian School. Redwood Memorial Chapel is assisting the family.
