Obituary for Katylu Burke
Katylu Burke passed away in Brookings on August 28. She was born on November 2, 1942 to Arnold and Adeline Kappeler in Woodland, CA. She is survived by her husband, Clyde, her brother, Gerald Kappeler, (Pat) a sister, Marlene Arconi, (Gordon) an aunt, three nieces, a great nephew, six great nieces, several great cousins and many close friends. After graduating from nursing school in San Francisco in 1965, she met Clyde when his commander in the Army, Gerald Kappeler, ordered him to date his sister, regardless of his other interests. The marriage, a year later, lasted 46 years to the day. Katylu helped put her husband through graduate school and then worked as a registered nurse in clinics and doctors offices in Maryland and Colorado. She and Clyde retired in 2003 and moved to Brookings from Aurora, CO. She soon became active in the Brookings Harbor Garden Club and served various positions. In all of her years, friends and relatives described her as organized, tough as nails and optimistic. Her husband says that she was an exceptional partner and a great cook. She also sewed nearly all of her clothes, worked on dozens of out door projects and maintained close contact with her aunt. Funeral services will be at the Star of the Sea Catholic Church on Saturday, September 8, with Rosary at 10:00 AM and Mass at 10:30 AM. If desired, contributions may be made to the Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 820 Old County Road, Brookings, OR 97415 or to Coastal Home Health & Hospice, PO Box 493, Gold Beach, OR 97444. Burial will take place at St Joseph's Cemetery in Woodland, CA on Monday, September 10 at 12:30 PM.
