Obituary for Katherine "Kate" Harrison
Katherine Harrison, aged 79, died peacefully on July 20, 2015 at her home at Sea View Senior Living, located in Brookings, Oregon, after a 18-month struggle with cancer. Kate was born November 10, 1935, in Baltimore, Maryland, the daughter of Daniel Hayward Hamilton and Emma Katherine Warfield. Kate graduated from Bryn Mawr High School in Maryland. Family and friends were Kate’s passion and delight. She thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors by playing tennis and was an accomplished bird watcher. Kate was an avid reader, loved playing bridge, music and enjoyed crafts such as crocheting, embroidery and even most recently, weaving with her own loom. At the age of 18, Kate left Baltimore and traveled to Redlands, CA, where she married Robert Barry, and they started a family in 1956. After returning to the east coast where they lived in Long Island New York and Summersville Connecticut, they settled in Miami, FL where they lived for 12 years before relocating to the San Fernando Valley in Southern California in 1975. Kate married Daniel Harrison in April, 1999 and they moved to Brookings, OR in 2001 where she was an active member in her church and community working with the Chamber of Commerce for many years. She and Dan were members of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church where they enjoyed singing in the choir and participating in the important roles of a small church. Kate is survived by her husband, Daniel Harrison, her sister, Anne and husband Carter Birely; of Pittsburgh, PA; son, Jeff Barry and wife Ramona of Santa Barbara, CA, daughter Pamela Johnson and husband Wendell Madison of Seattle, WA; daughter Margaret Barry of Chico, CA and six grandchildren, three and a half great-children (great-granddaughter expected in November); six nieces and nephews; and a number of other relatives and close friends. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her during her illness. There will be a memorial service for Kate at at 4:00pm on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, 401 Fir St. in Brookings, Ore. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent in her name to St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, PO Box 1237, Brookings, OR 97415 or to The American Cancer Society, P.O.
