Obituary for Karen Sue Jones
Karen Sue Jones was born in Tillamook, Oregon on December 13, 1954 to Richard and Margie Hoffman. On September 3, 2016, Karen lost her heartbreaking battle with cancer, leaving a hole in the lives of those who loved her. Karen moved to Gold Beach with her family in 1962. After graduating high school, she attended school in Seattle, Washington to become a veterinary technician. She successfully worked in that field for a couple of years in Redmond, Oregon. Karen married Marc Jones in March of 1979. They moved to Prineville, Oregon for a brief period of time, during which she enjoyed the outdoor routines of ranch life. After relocating back to Gold Beach, Karen worked numerous jobs, including at the old Montgomery Ward store, and eleven years of office work at Curry General Hospital. She left the hospital to work 20 years as the office manager for Dr. Michael O’Gara, where she touched many lives in positive ways. Karen gave birth to her daughter, Emily, in November of 1995. Emily was the light of Karen’s life, and what Karen held as the greatest of all gifts. In addition to her joy in raising Emily, Karen treasured spending time with all of her family. She was an avid outdoors person, and appreciated all that nature has to offer. Karen loved gardening, bird and whale watching, hunting, camping, and going for drives in the hills. She and Marc shared many great skiing trips during their early years of marriage. Karen also enjoyed reading, especially historical novels. Many lives have been bettered through knowing Karen. She had a positive outlook, and saw each day as a new possibility. She was an example to others on how to look for the good in even the most difficult of situations. Karen inspired those around her to live by higher standards, again, offering herself as an example. Her unfailing determination, and love of life, throughout her battle with illness will be forever remembered. Karen is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Sidney. In addition to being survived by Marc and Emily, Karen also leaves behind her siblings, Rhonda Hoffman, Cathy McHenry (Ron), Dennis Hoffman (Kathy), Patsy Rhoades (KC Murphy), nieces and nephews, Hannah Hoffman, Robyn Andrade (Jose), Eric Hoffman, Billy Rhoades, Garrett Hoffman (Haley), Trevor Hoffman, and great- nephew Ryan Rhoades, and numerous cousins. A memorial service will be held Sept 24, 2016, at 1:00 pm at Calvary Chapel in Gold Beach. Memorial contributions may be made to CC’s Clothes for Cancer, 97900 Shopping Center Ave., Brookings, OR 97415. Condolences may be expressed online at www.redwoodmemorial.net.
