She grew up in Brookings graduating from Brookings Harbor High School in 1962. She attended business school in Portland briefly before marrying Henry Julian. As he was in the Coast Guard, they transferred first to Port Angeles and then to Juneau, Alaska. They later divorced. Joyce’s menagerie of pets grew as time went on; she loved her animals. In retirement Joyce was very active at St. Timothy Episcopal Church including service on the Altar Guild and coordination of the Church’s annual rummage sales. Joyce loved life. Whether she was spending time with her grandchildren, gardening, walking on the beach, going to concerts at Azalea Park, or going on picnics up the river with her family. One of the most important things in Joyce’s life was to make sure her brother, Jerry, who has special needs, was well taken care of and enjoyed life.
