Obituary for Jose M. Freitas
Jose M. Freitas July 3, 1938 – May 7, 2018
Jose M. Freitas, 79, passed away at his home in Brookings, Oregon. On May 7, 2018.
Jose was born July 3, 1938 in Azores, Portugal to Antonio and Maria (Medeiros) Freitas. He spent the first 27 years of his life there until moving to Lodi, California, where he lived for a few years. He eventually moved to Arcata, California. Jose married Maria Santana in New Bedford, Mass. and they lived in Arcata for the next 36 years. They then moved to Brookings in 2008. Jose enjoyed watching sports, westerns, and game shows on television. He also enjoyed working in his vegetable garden. He and Maria were members of Star of the Sea Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Maria, of Brookings; son, Jerry Freitas, daughter-in-law, Kayla Freitas, granddaughters Isabella and Sophiana Freitas, all of Brookings; sister, Maria Sousa and her husband, Manuel, and goddaughter Lucy and niece, Mikenzie Sousa of Arcata, CA.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 7:00pm on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Redwood Memorial Chapel, 1020 Fifield St. in Brookings. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30am on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 820 Old County Rd. in Brookings. A reception will follow there in the Parish Hall.
