Obituary for Joni (Joanne Helen) Finch
Joni (Joanne Helen) Finch
October 7, 1938 - June 27, 2019

Joni Finch passed away in her home in Brookings, following a battle with cancer.

She was born Oct. 7, 1938 in Newport News, Virginia to Oliver Spencer McCay & Helen Hall McCay. She grew up and attended school in Newport News, Virginia and Los Angeles, California.

She moved to Brookings in 1985, worked at Alliance Fast Mart where she met and fell in love with the love of her life Allen Blaine Finch. The two were married in Reno in April 1990 surrounded by family and Reno Bowling League members. They were very avid bowlers! She enjoyed bowling all her life. She was very good & and she loved it!! Even when Azalea Lanes closed, she still tried a couple leagues in Crescent City.

Social butterfly, loved people, loved making them laugh with some jokes & you better believe she still had jokes! Even more than that she loved singing. She sang in piano bars in L.A, in grocery stores, elevators, Dr. offices and most recently the ER staff with Elvis. Songbird could sing about anything & everything. Couldn’t remember much, but songs, music & lyrics never faded. “Without music, life would be an error.”

She worked many jobs; switchboard operator, L.A., California, Alliance Fastmart Mgr. Gold Coast Title, South Coast Lumber/Truck shop, Chetco Pharmacy. She also volunteered at Chetco Activity Center, Chamber of Commerce & Curry Health Network Auxiliary.

She is survived by her sister Toni Haworth of Seal Beach, California, Daughters; Carol Marleen Torres of Tujunga, California, Julie Ann Wood of Pasadena, California, Jennifer Natona Wood of Brookings, Oregon; grandchildren Vanessa Katherine Torres of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Jessica Joanne (Leland Wallace) Cooke of Brookings, Oregon and great-grandchildren Ayden Byron Cooke, Tavyn Blaine Cooke and Emeliyah Natona-Ann Cooke.

She is also survived by her sister-in-law Shirley McCay of Rigby, Idaho, nephews and nieces Kenneth & Suzette, Sonny & Tamara, Joyce & Hal, and Christine & Paul, Don Cook, Karen Ried, Josephy & Beth Cook, Gene Mitchell and beautiful Amy. Many great nieces and nephews all of Idaho who loved their Aunt JoHo almost as much as she loved them and she had 22!

Preceded in death by her father Oliver Spencer McCay, her mother Helen Hall McCay, The Love of her life Allem Blaine Finch and most recently her twin brother John Spencer McCay.

Special thanks to Dr McDougall, Tres, Stacy, Linda and the entire staff at M-Care. She loved you all and the care provided was above & beyond.

Also, a special thanks to Hospice, especially Hospice nurse Shirley...she is an Angel!!!
