Obituary for John Alexander Toth
John Alexander Toth, 69, of Gold Beach, Ore. passed away unexpectedly in Gold Beach, Ore. on November 18, 2015.
John was born May 2, 1946 in Indianapolis, Ind. to Alexander and Dorothy (Miller) Toth. The family moved to southern California when John was 5 years old; he graduated from Western High School in Anaheim in 1964. He enlisted in the US Army in 1967 and was honorably discharged in 1969 after serving in the Vietnam War. He received several commendations for his service including the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. On March 13, 1971, John married Sharon Burch in Anaheim, Calif., whom he had met at Knottsberry Farm in 1966. John and Sharon started a Kirby Vacuum franchise in California. They moved to Gold Beach in 1984. Both Sharon and John quickly found work at Coast Auto Center in Brookings. John would continue there for 28 years, retiring as sales manager in 2013. John was an avid golfer; he loved all sports and could be found at all of his daughters’ sporting events and, later, at his grandchildren’s sporting events.
John is survived by his wife of nearly 45 years, Sharon of Gold Beach; daughters, Shelley (David) Denney of Gold Beach and their children Alexandria “Aley” and Zachary, Kelley (Brian) Wernicke of Salem, Ore. and their children McKenzie and Brooke, Christy Toth of Eugene, Ore. and Luka, Tammy (Walter) Scherbarth of Gold Beach and their child, Payton, Laurie (Hap) Flynn and their child, Braidon, Amy Toth of Maryland and her children Tre and Jordan; sister, Betty Barendt of Arizona. John was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Toth.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on November 28, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Gold Beach, 29755 Turner Street in Gold Beach.
