Obituary for Johan J. Koenig
Johan J. Koenig, 55, passed away at his home in Nesika Beach on September 20, 2015. Johan was born December 9, 1959 in Columbus, Ohio to Carl and Midge (Everett) Koenig. Following high school, he attended the University of Washington on a scholarship for football. Johan married Sara Terry in Glendora, Calif. on June 13, 1981. They lived there until moving to Gold Beach in 1989. Johan was best known for his skill in concrete cutting. He excelled in the trade and was sought after locally and regionally for his ability. Johan even modified a floor saw specifically for use in the Elkton Tunnel on Hwy. 38. Though he achieved success in his trade, Johan resisted entering business for himself as he always wanted to be hands on with his work. Johan was loved by all who knew him. Johan and Sara loved the Oregon coast. Many a weekend would find them camping, swimming at favorite swimming holes and day hikes. One of their favorite places was the Sunset Beach at Shore Acres State Park. He also enjoyed target shooting, family gatherings and football. Survived by his wife, Sara; daughter, Cara Koenig and her husband, Spike Hagood of Gold Beach, daughter Gretchen Koenig of Gold Beach; grandchildren, Mac Hagood, and Brooklyn Hagood, siblings, Joe Koenig and his wife Jeannie of California, Peggy Hoffman and her husband Doug of California, Mary Flores and her husband Larry of Ohio, Babbette Rossen and her husband Maynard of Oklahoma, Elizabeth Bachmann and her husband Russell of California.
