Obituary for Joel G. Cardenas-Ramos
Joel G. Cardenas-Ramos Dec. 8, 1984—July 19, 2014 Joel Guadalupe Cardenas-Ramos of Brookings, Ore., passed away following a motor vehicle accident July 19, 2014 in Brookings. He was 29 years old. Joel was born Dec. 8, 1984 in Culiacan Sinaloa, Mexico, to Jose Adolfo Cardenas and Maria Luz Ramos. On March 4, 2012, Joel married Stacey Avila in Crescent City, Calif., and together they had three children. Joel was a correctional officer with Pelican Bay State Prison, where he had been working for the past three-and-a-half years. He was a member of Solid Rock Christian Fellowship in Crescent City. In his free time, Joel loved fishing, going to the shooting range, and riding motorcycles and roller coasters. He was a lover of animals, and enjoyed spending time with his kids. He was a family man; family always came first for Joel, and he enjoyed going on family walks at Harris Beach and Loeb Park. He loved being a father, and loved playing on the trampoline, video and board games, reading, and praying with his children. He even dressed as Santa one year for Christmas, and put gifts under the tree. He was also a goofy guy with a playful sense of humor, and a heart of gold. He worked hard to provide and give his children and wife the world. Joel also enjoyed spending time with his two German Shepherds, Chloe and Paris, and his cat Safari. Joel is survived by his wife, Stacey Ramos, and their three children, Joel Alexander Ramos, Natalie Rose Ramos, and Alexis Serenity Ramos; brother Luis Ernesto Cardenas-Ramos of Merced, Calif.; mother Maria Ramos and stepfather Vincent Linares, who is also the godfather of Joel and Stacey’s children, of Merced, Calif.; father-in-law Lee Avila and his fiancé Trudy Finn of Atwater, Calif.; grandmothers Hiliaria Ramos of Mexico, and Abagil Cardenas of Brookings; and father Jose Adolfo Cardenas of Brookings. He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Hesimundo Ramos; and his wife’s grandmother, Rosa Belo, who was very dear to Joel. He is with her now. A visitation will be held Thursday, July 31 from 2 to 8 p.m. at Whitehurst-Norton-Dias Funeral Service, 286 W. Main St., Turlock, CA 95380. A rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, Aug. 1 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 2602 S. Walnut Rd., Turlock, CA 95380, with interment to follow at Turlock Memorial Park, 575 N. Soderquist Rd., Turlock, CA 95380. Redwood Memorial Chapel is assisting the family.
