Jim Parnell, 75, passed away at home in Brookings on December 2, 2011 after a lengthy illness. Jim served in the Navy and was mainly stationed in Guam. He then enlisted in the Coast Guard and served in Alaska and Florida. He enjoyed traveling, restoring trailers and woodworking in his shop. He made some beautiful Myrtlewood lighthouses. Jim loved his family and friends, and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his loving wife, Verna, of Brookings; his two sons, Bob (Cindy) and Tony; four grandchildren, Ciara, Michel, Melissa and Christina; three great-grandchildren, Estee, Damien and Sophie, all of Washington. He is also survived by his brothers Don (Nan) and Dilbert (Helen), his sister, Dru, many nieces and nephews and sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws. Jim was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret and six brothers: Eugene, David, Roger, Bob, Nelson and Lee. A get-together will be held at Chetco RV Park Recreational Center on Friday, December 9, 2011 from 2-4 P.M. All friends are invited to come by. Jim’s wish was to be cremated and have his ashes buried in Mount Vernon, Washington. The family would like to thank all the staff and volunteers of Coastal Home Health and Hospice for all their help and loving kindness.
