Obituary for Jay Boisseau Mosby
Jay Boisseau Mosby
January 9, 1926 – July 5, 2019

Jay Boisseau Mosby was born January 9, 1926 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Temple Houston Mosby and Lois Emily (Denney) Mosby. Jay grew up with three brothers being raised by his Mother and Grandmother after his Father passed away at the young age of 36. After high school, Jay enlisted in the U. S. Navy and served in W.W. II from 1943-1946. Upon receiving his honorable discharge from the Navy, Jay enrolled in art school at Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles, California. After graduating he worked in animation at Walt Disney Studios. During a general layoff, he took a “temporary” job designing glass bottles, label and mound equipment at Anchor Glass. Thirty years later he retired and relocated with his wife, Bev, to Brookings, Oregon.

Jay began painting watercolor landscapes in 1975 and soon was teaching adult education classes. He also began an eight-year association with Yosemite Art Activity Center in Yosemite National park. Jay conducted workshops and Elderhostels in Crescent City and taught Elderhostels at Camp Cascade, east of Salem, Oregon. A most accomplished watercolorist, Jay enjoyed painting and drawing on Thursday afternoons at Manley Center’s Life Drawing sessions. Jay was preceded in death by his wife, Bev, of 58 years, who passed away May 3, 2017.

While residing at Sea View Senior Living Community, Jay taught an afternoon art class in the activity center and also enjoyed painting portraits of the residents in the Bright Creek Memory Care Unit of Sea View. There will be no service as jay requested. Wright’s Custom Framing and Art will have on display many of Jay’s watercolor portraits and landscapes at the Second Saturday Art Walk on August 11 from 3-6 p.m.
