James S. Welter April 17, 1929—July 14, 2014 James S. Welter of Brookings, Ore., passed away at his home on July 14, 2014. He was 85 years old. Jim was born April 17, 1929 in Kennewick, Wash., to William and Elda (Badly) Welter. He served in the U.S. Army for two years before being honorably discharged in 1953. Jim married Bernice Warner on Nov. 24, 1951, right near the Thanksgiving holiday. Jim had a variety of careers, including working as a ranch hand, and was a fishery consultant for South Coast Fisheries. He also did volunteer work for various non-profit organizations, and was active in the First Baptist Community Church in Brookings. He loved fishing, and was known as an expert fisherman in the community. Jim is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Bradley and Judy Welter and their three children of Fort Bragg, Calif.; son Timothy Welter of Brookings; daughter June Paul and her two sons Noel and Andrew Paul of Brookings. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, July 26th at the First Baptist Community Church, 607 Pacific Ave., Brookings, OR 97415. Redwood Memorial Chapel is assisting the family.
