Obituary for James L. Johnson III
James Lewis Johnson III passed away on the evening of June 30, 2012 after a courageous, year-long battle with cancer. He was born on March 22, 1985 to Linda and James "Jim" Johnson Jr. in Newport Beach, Calif. At the age of two, James and his family moved to Brookings, the place he would call home from then on. James' true passion was fishing. He worked as a commercial fisheman for his career, but also enjoyed it as his hobby. Often, James would spend time fishing ont he Chetco River and considered it to be his second home. He fished along the caost from San Francisco, Calif. to the state of Washington. Once, he even tried to hitch-hike up to Alaska to fish. His biggest dream was to be able to fish off those shores. He also enjoyed hunting, camping and hiking, sometimes even by himself with a bowl of Top Ramen and the day's catch. He is survived by his children Aaliyah, Kiyla, and James Johnson IV; parents Jim Johnson and Linda Johnson; sister Jamie Serna; gilrfriend Amber Johnson; niece Cayleen Wiley; nephews Riley and Tyler Serna all of Brookings; grandmother Sarah Wadsworth of Sweet Home; and number aunts, uncles, and cousins who James loved very much. James is preceded in death by his grandparents, Dianne Larsen and James Johnson Sr. A memorial will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Living Waters Foursquare Church, 1136 Fifield Street in Brookings. All are welcome to come and share the memory of this wonderful, young man.
