James Joseph Darcy November 22, 1925 – March 20, 2010 James Darcy was born in Brooklyn, New York to Irish immigrant parents, Michael and Elizabeth Darcy. At age 18 he proudly joined the U.S. Army and fought in France and Germany in WWII, he received the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Clusters. After the war he was stationed at Fort Ord, California. There he met the love of his life, Mary Louise Roper. They were married for 59 years. They had 3 children and soon moved to Hayward, California to raise their family. James went to work for the U.S. Post Office. He worked there for 30 years. Jim was an avid bowler, he enjoyed bowling his whole life. He bowled with the Castro Valley Seniors for many years. Toni, their middle daughter moved to Eugene, Oregon after nursing school. A couple of times a year Jim and Mary would drive to Eugene to visit Toni. On one trip they missed the cut off to Medford. They ended up in Brookings for coffee and thought it was a lovely little town. Then in 1999 the last grandchild graduated from high school and again they thought of Brookings. They decided to sell their house and make the move to Brookings. Once they decided it all happened very fast. They wanted a house with an ocean view. After looking for 3 months they found what they wanted, their dream house. They spent 11 happy years together in their dream home. They bowled at Azalea Lanes and made many friends. They loved Brookings and wished that they had moved here sooner. Jim’s brother, John Darcy moved her in 2000. His son, Richard moved here in 2003 and his daughter, Joy moved here in 2008. Jim lived a full and happy life, especially his final years in Brookings. He died at home surrounded by his devoted family, who will miss him greatly. He is survived by his loving wife Mary; daughter, Joy Carlin, son, Richard Darcy; his son-in-law Paul Carlin and his grandchildren: Caneel Carlin and Rachel Kendall and his great-grandchildren; James W. Phelan and Kaitlyn Marie Fergusen, Travis Kendall and Lauren Kendall. Jim’s daughter Toni, pre deceased him in March 2007.
