Obituary for James "Jimmie" Ray Hagerty
Place of Birth: Blanchard, IA God saw you getting tired And a cure was not to be; So he put his arms around you And whispered, “Come to Me” With tearful eyes we watched you And saw you pass away. And although we love you dearly We could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped breathing Hard-working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best. Jim was a family man who was married to the love of his life, Shirley, for 53 years. He adored his children and grandchildren and was an inspiration to his family. Jim had a passion for football throughout all his life. He followed his father’s footsteps by playing for Washington State and continuing to play for the Los Angeles Rams then traded to the Washington Redskins in 1957. His career ended due to an Achilles injury, but his passion for the sport continued with coaching Southern California teams, his sons, and his grandchildren learned “words of wisdom” from their grandfather how sports help pave the path of life. Jim always had a compliment to everyone he met. He thought of others before himself. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be missed dearly. He will always be our hero and have the best seat in the house watching his grandchildren carry on the tradition of his passion for sports. Jim leaves his devoted wife, Shirley Hagerty, his children and their spouses: Lori & John Larson of California, Dan & Julie Hagerty of Washington, Neal Hagerty of California, Tony & Melissa Hannan of Brookings, OR. His grandchildren: Jacob, Michael, Chelsey, Shane, Cole, Jett, Liam, Jade, Brock, Joshua and Trinity. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Coastal Home Health & Hospice, PO Box 493, Gold Beach, OR 97444.
