Obituary for James Franklin Fritcher

Graveside services for James Franklin Fritcher, 89, of Gold Beach, Oregon, will be held Tuesday, March 29, at 10:00 am, at Glen Abby Mortuary in Bonita, California. Pastor Dave Robinson will officiate. Mr. Fritcher passed away on March 10, 2011, in Gold Beach. He was born on February 26, 1922 in Pilot Point, TX to the late Frank and Isolena Fritcher. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a survivor of Pearl Harbor, serving on the USS California. He next was assigned to the USS Portland heavy cruiser, and then the USS Santa Fe light cruiser. He saw action in the Marshall Islands, the Philippines, Formosa, and Okinawa. He also served in the Korean War from 1950-1953. Mr. Fritcher served in the Navy until 1962, when he retired at the rank of Chief Boatswain’s Mate. After his retirement from the Navy, Mr. Fritcher went to gunsmith’s school and worked in this profession for 35 years. He also worked at Roahr Aircraft in Chula Vist, California. He lived in Chula Vista for many years. In addition to his parents, Mr. Fritcher was preceded in death by his wife, Enid Fritcher; sons: Jim Fritcher and Timothy Fritcher; brothers: Henry Fritcher and Joe Fritcher; and sister, Eloise Bouton. He is survived by his special sweetheart, Polly Lander of Gold Beach, OR; grandson, Tim Fritcher and wife, Donna of San Marcos, California; great-grandchildren: Tommy and Hanna; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. James Fritcher was an honest man and a good friend. He was a hero to his family and will be greatly missed.
