Jack O. Carter, 70, of Brookings, passed away in Crescent City, Calif. on Sept. 17, 2016.
Jack was born in Sutherlin, Ore. on Sept. 9, 1946. He moved with his family to the coast where he began work at the age of 15 in the lily fields in Northern California. Jack later worked as a mechanic, owning his own shop in Crescent City. He then went to work as a forklift operator and truck driver. Jack worked for several different mills during his career including Miller Redwood in Crescent City and Sierra Pacific in Hayfork, Calif. It was in Hayfork that Jack met Diane Dittrick. The two fell in love and were married in Virginia City, Nev. on Sept. 1, 1995. They moved to Brookings in 2005.
Jack enjoyed his work and racing cars. He was a big fan of Dale Earnhardt. Jack attended Calvary Assembly of God Church where, 2 years ago, he re-committed his life to Christ and was baptized.
Survivors include his wife, Diane; children, Michael, Michelle, Jennifer, Sally, Lissa, Gina, Eric, Wendy and Tracy; numerous grandchildren; brothers, Lloyd and D.D. Carter; and sister, Wanda Carlile. Jack was preceded in death by his sister, Judy Caudill.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016 at Calvary Assembly of God Church, 518 Fir Street in Brookings.
