Obituary for Irving "Davie" Allen Davis
Irving Allen Davis passed away at a local care facility in Brookings, Oregon, on January 18, 2012. He was 90 years old. He was known as "Davie" to friends and "Grandpa" to family. Irving was born December 28, 1921, in Robinson, Illinois. He was raised along with his twin brother, Ivan, by foster parents, Ward and Emily Davis. Davie served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in an anti-submarine blimp patrolling the western U.S. coast. Davie was honorably discharged from the service in 1945. On June 4, 1945, Dave "made the best decision of my life," when he married Evelyn Elizabeth Wicks in Eureka, California. Evelyn and Davie had been married for 47 years when she passed away in 1991. Davie worked as a serviceman for most of his life in auto garages and service stations. He also delivered meat to local grocery stores. Davie later worked for Humboldt County and retired in 1983. He moved to Brookings in 2008. Survivors include his son, Rudy Davis of Eureka; grandson, Nicholas Davis of Nashville, Tennessee; cousins Sharon and Jim Vanderwall of Clio, California; and adopted daughter, Geri Montana McKay, of Brookings. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Community Church, 607 Pacific Avenue. in Brookings, Oregon.
