Obituary for Iain Keir Todd
Iain Keir Todd, 60, loving husband, father, grandfather and proud physician’s assistant died Jan. 16, 2015, in Brookings. Keir was born in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, to John and Margaret Todd who immigrated to the United States from Scotland. After he graduated from the University of Detroit-Mercy Physician Assistant program he worked at the famous Detroit Receiving Hospital. He was a University Professor of Physician Assistant Studies at Wayne State University in Detroit, Central Michigan University, Oregon Health Sciences Center and Pacific University. He was mission-driven and dedicated to the highest quality healthcare everywhere he worked, including Curry Medical Center. His work colleagues were truly extended family to him. Keir was a man of many passions, with curiosity for both the arts and sciences. He began to play the bagpipes as a teenager and matured into a national competitive bagpipe champion. He became a grand master at the Ferndale, Michigan, Masonic Lodge. History, philosophy, science, music, linguistics, and literature were especially loved by him. Keir generously shared his talents, knowledge and skills. He touched the lives of many and had a reputation for his keen intelligence, wicked humor and poignant aphorisms. His exuberance for high standards could be intimidating at times, but he was loved. The Milky Way and green-flash sunsets fueled a sense of wonder to wax philosophical. He is survived by his wife Regina Rushe, son Alastair Todd, daughter Anne Vega and daughter Allison Witt as well as granddaughters Lindsay and Alexandra. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at the Capella by the Sea in Azalea Park, Brookings.
