Obituary for Herb E. Fritz
Herbert E. “Herb” Fritz, 87, of Brookings, passed away April 4, 2013 in Crescent City, Calif. Herb was born December 12, 1925 in Ft. Collins, Colo. to Ernest and Hazel (Pease) Fritz. He joined the US Navy on December 2, 1943 and served in World War II. He was honorably discharged on April 26, 1946. Herb moved to Brookings, Ore. in 1948. He met Erma Meyers and they were married in Brookings on June 7, 1951. Herb worked here in the local lumber industry until 1951 when he began what would be a 35-year career as a driver with Consolidated Freightways. Herb and Erma raised four children in Brookings. He enjoyed traveling, including returning to Colorado, and going on cruises. He also enjoyed taking walks. Herb was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Survivors include his wife Erma Fritz of Brookings, children Donna Herrick and her husband Leo of San Jose, Calif., Darrell Whirry and his wife Beth of Brookings, Ore., Doreen Harrell and her husband Allen of Brookings, Ore., and Bill Fritz and his wife Judy of Las Vegas, Nev., 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, sister Patricia Montgomery of Ft. Collins, Colo. Herb was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, 1 brother and a grandchild: Jeremiah Harrell. A private family graveside service and interment will be at W. J.
