Obituary for Henry "Hank" James Burch
Henry J. Burch, 86, passed away at his home in Gold Beach on November 1, 2011. Henry was born October 29, 1925 in Vandergrift, Penn. to Harry and Estelle (Swift) Burch. Following high school he entered the US Navy where he served during WWII until being honorably discharged in March of 1946. He married Dorothy Marie Stinson on October 29, 1945 in Tijuana, Mexico. They renewed their marriage in the US in 1965. Henry worked in several different vocations including as a builder, truck driver, mechanic and restaurant and gas station owner. He was very active in the Gold Beach community including running the VFW’s Bingo for the last 30 years for which he received the Gold Beach City Council’s Outstanding Citizen Award in 2009. Henry also was recognized for his service in the VFW which included being the Post Commander and the founder of the Gold Beach Avenue of Flags. Henry even appeared in the DAV’s magazine describing his service in the Navy. Henry also helped with 4H and enjoyed re-modeling houses and doing crafts with his daughter including Oregon Duck and OSU Beaver signs they sold in the annual craft bazaar. Henry enjoyed hunting and fishing and working with his hands. He was a member of the Moose Lodge. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and John Toth of Gold Beach, daughter, Teri Lynn Brazil Burch of Lakeside, CA, grandchildren, Shelley Denney, Kelley Wernicke, Christy Toth, Tammy Scherbath, Laurie Flynn, Amy Toth, Richard Brazil, Ryan Brazil and Randall Brazil, brother, Harry Burch of California, numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Henry was preceded in death by his wife in 2009 and three sisters. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
