Obituary for Henry Eckert "Hank" Grampp
Henry Eckert Grampp, known as "Hank" to his friends, was 73 when he passed away on Dec. 8, 2010 in Brookings. Hank was born Oct. 7, 1937, in New York, N.Y., to Henry and Lena Grampp. He lived in New York from birth until 1999, during which he first married Patrica Vannordstrand. They had a daughter, Molly. In 1963 Hank married Evelyn Hoback. They had a son, Mark, and were married until 1989. Molly and Mark met for the first time while tending to Hank's passing. For those who really knew Hank, they would understand that Hank ended up in Brookings after much study of various places to live. He studied the location, the weather, the lifestyle, etc., and he truly loved his choice of Brookings. That is not to say that he gave up "the New York" in him, though. You could take Hank out of Queens, but you couldn't take the Queens out of Hank. Hank's work early on included systems analyst at Union Carbide, stock broker at Shearson Hamill in New York, and later on Hank owned his own business, Sensitronic, where he provided surveillance, security equipment and monitoring to New York businesses. Hank enjoyed movies, hanging out at the beach, having coffee at his "regular" spots, and researching his many areas of interest. Hank had incredible compassion for those with health issues and would share his vast knowledge of alternative medical treatments such as medical ozone therapy. Other studies of his included Shakespeare, the Civil War, meditation, yoga and reincarnation. Perhaps we will get hints of him watching over us here and there. Survivors include his former wife, Evelyn, and son, Mark both of California; daughter Molly; son-in-law John; grandson Paul, 15; granddaughters Jennifer, 19 and Brooklynn, 5, of Colorado. And, of course, his cat Stinky. Condolences may be expressed at www.redwoodmemorial.net and we would enjoy your "Hank Stories" sent to Molly Boyle and Mark Elliott, c/o 9623 S. Dolton Way, Highlands Ranch, CO 80126, or e-mail Molly at firecracker59@comcast.net
