Obituary for Harry Burlew Lawrence
Harry Burlew Lawrence (63) of Brookings - beloved husband, father, brother, and friend - was welcomed home by his Lord and Savior on Friday, April 16, 2010 surrounded by his wife and daughters. Harry was diagnosed with leukemia a year earlier. This could have been a battle, but God used him as a means to minister to others. Harry was preceded in death by his parents Harry Burlew Lawrence Sr. and Elizabeth Carroll Lawrence, as well as his brother-in-law Nicholas Bayless. Harry is survived by his loving wife Marilyn, daughters Danielle, Paige, Kaitlin and Deborah; as well as his brother Andrew Lawrence of Arizona, and in-laws Richard and Karen Bayless of Phoenix, Arizona; David and Bryn Bayless of Glendora, California; Don and Robin Bayless of Placentia, California; and Leo and Pam Ramirez of Phoenix, Arizona. Harry was born December 17, 1946 in Pensacola, Florida. After graduating from high school, Harry enlisted in the USMCR. He married Marilyn on August 6, 1983. Harry moved to Brookings in 1989 as part of the Pelican Bay State Prison activation team, and the rest of the family followed shortly. He completed his career with the California Department of Corrections after 26 years, and retired in July of 2000. Harry was a member of the Ministerial Association, and was involved with the Gospel Rescue Mission. Shortly after his retirement he became involved in a passionate nursing home ministry at Curry Good Samaritan. Harry had a fabulous command of the English language and a great sense of humor. He loved to read, walk, run, and spend time with his family. Harry pastored the Oceanside Bible Church in Brookings. Church services were held at the Lawrence's home, where his love for the Lord was evident in his teachings. Harry was a compassionate person who was always available to serve and minister to others. He embodied the scriptures of Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path." A celebration of Harry's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at Calvary Assembly of God at 518 Fir Street, Brookings.
