Obituary for Harold J. Nicholson
Harold J. Nicholson Dec. 7, 1925 - April 29, 2011 Harold J. Nicholson passed away at his home in Harbor on April 29, 2011. He was 85. Harold was born December 7, 1925 in Hubbard, OR to Roy and Hazel (James) Nicholson. He spent most of his childhood in the Molalla area. Harold entered the US Army in 1944 and served until being honorably discharged in 1946. Harold married Veomia Olson on December 29, 1943. They lived in Cloverdale and Tillamook before moving to Brookings in 1958 where Harold worked for Brookings Plywood. They later moved Tigard, OR where Harold owned and operated the Coast to Coast Hardware Store as well as a Laundromat. In 1989, the couple retired to Brookings. Harold enjoyed fishing, hunting and going on walks. In his later years, he enjoyed collecting wood pallets from local businesses and cutting them up for firewood. Harold is survived by his daughters, Lois Haugen of Forest Grove, OR and Patricia Ecob of London, England, grandchildren, Lawrence "Rusty" Jacobson, Tanya, Scott and George Fitzhugh, Elizabeth and Christina Ecob, great grandchildren, Taylor Sexton, Louis Blandau, Samuel and Sean Jacobson, Jess, Sierra, Carter and Camilla Fitzhugh and numerous nieces and nephews. Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Veomia in 2002, daughter, Carolyn Fitzhugh in 2003 and two brothers. A celebration of Harold's life will be held on Monday, May 16, 2011 at 11:00am at Redwood Memorial Chapel, 1020 Fifield St. Private interment was held at W. J. Ward Memorial Cemetery in Brookings.
