Obituary for Gregory Galen Jacques
Greg lost a hard battle with recurring esophageal cancer after 6 years of being cancer free.
His friends and family remember him as being larger than life. He could fill a room with his stories and laughter. Greg moved to Brookings with his family in 1854. He attended Brookings schools, graduating in 1962. He excelled at sports and received many college offers for football, settling on Cabrillo College at Santa Cruz.
Greg joined the Army in 1965. He was selected for Special Forces and served with both the 10th and 5th SFG. He was with the 220 Mobile Strike Force in Pleikiu. He received a Bronze Star for Valor, a Combat Medic Badge and a Purple Heart while working with the Montagnards in the Vietnamese Highlands.
After leaving the service he attended Portland Community College before coming back to Brookings to work for his Dad, Red Jacques. He lived in Alaska and worked king crabbing and retired after many years from Tidewater Contractors.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents Red and Margie Jacques. He leaves behind his wife of 41 years, Brenda; sisters Debi and Candy; sons Vince, Ryan, Colin, Tom and Todd; daughters Kara and Josie; 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews who loved him.
