Obituary for Grace Rabourn
Grace Rabourn passed away on July 4, 2010, a month shy of her 102nd Birthday, in Brookings. Grace was born August 11, 1908 in Villisca, IA, one of 10 children of John and Jane (Sickles) Cooper. She grew up in Iowa. She met James Rabourn in 1938. He was serving in the U.S. Navy. The two were married May 3, 1942 in Flushing, NY. The couple moved to Corona, Calif., in the late 1940’s. Grace worked at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Norco, CA and also later as a teacher's aide in a grade school in Corona. James worked as a fire chief for the Naval Laboratory in Norco, Calif., and servied as a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy. Grace and James retired to Brookings 1978. They were especially fond of animals and had several dogs and cats over the years, their favorite being a little Maltese named Benjy, who lived to be 19 years old. They loved to travel and visited countries all around the world. They really loved the coast, and loved to go out to dinner. They took many drives to that wonderful Cranberry Candy Factory in Bandon. They also enjoyed keeping track of the buffalo at the Alexandra Farm in Lake Earl, Calif. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Cyndee and Kenneth Hendricks of Brookings, grandchildren, Jeanette Schow and her husband, Pete of Ogden, Utah, Ben Hendricks of Logan, Utah, Diana Hendricks of Odine, great grandchildren, Laila Hendricks, Perry Schow and his wife, Anna, Kenny Schow; great-great-grandson, Bentley Schow born May 29, 2010. Grace was preceded in death by her husband, James in 2007. She will join her husband at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. No public services will be held. Cremation was at Redwood Memorial Crematory.
