Obituary for Gordon B. Bowman Jr.
Gordon B. Bowman, Jr., 90, of Brookings, passed away in Gold Beach, Ore. on May 27, 2014. He was born November 5, 1923 in Petaluma, Calif. to Gordon and Anna (Hockema) Bowman. Gordon was raised on a farm in the Rogue Valley. He entered the US Army in 1943 and served until 1945 having earned a service medal with three bronze stars. Following his service, Gordon lived in Pistol River working on his uncle’s ranch. He married Florence Lutjemeier in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho on Dec. 18, 1948. In 1959, he and Florence moved to the Klamath Basin where they bought a hay and grain farm which they ran for 30 years. They retired to Brookings in 1989. Following Florence’s death in 2004, Gordon returned to Klamath Falls to live with his son. In 2008, they returned to Brookings. Gordon enjoyed elk hunting and salmon fishing. He also enjoyed his work on the farm and being able to help people. Survivors include his son, Jim of Brookings, daughters, Beverly Grimes of Brookings and Lisa J. Skeen of Vancouver, Wash., grandchildren, Cody Bowman, Greg Rice, Kelly Grimes, Mike and Jeff Minnick. In addition to his wife, Gordon was preceded in death by a brother, Floyd Bowman and a sister, Marge Gitzen. No public ceremony will be held. Gordon will be inurned privately at Eagle Point National Cemetery in Eagle Point, Ore. Redwood Memorial Chapel is assisting the family.
